Canady Foundation for the Arts will present Shellée M. Haynesworth with The Storyteller Award at its inaugural Dream In Color Soiree on Saturday, June 24, 2023!

The Canady Foundation for the Arts (CFA) inaugural Soiree will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2023 with a mission to empower youth to Dream In Color. CFA will celebrate the past, present, and future of DMV youth of color, arts education, and dynamic cultural storytelling at their inaugural soiree: DREAM IN COLOR on Saturday, June 24, 2023, 6pm at the Hecht Warehouse in Washington, DC. Dream In Color will raise critical funds for CFA’s operations, programming, and community initiatives.

Shellée M. Haynesworth, Executive Producer/Owner, Indigo Creative Works adds, “I’m beyond honored to be a recipient of CFA’s The Storyteller Award at their upcoming celebration of DMV storytelling at their Dream In Color soiree. This event arrives right on time, because Black storytelling’s future rests in the hands of our youth and our community. It’s critically important that we empower, nurture, and support local youth arts education organizations such as Canady Foundation for the Arts.“

Since our founding in 2015, we have served over 8,000+ youth and families through our programming, community partnerships and national performances. Our programs serve youth of color from infancy-high school. We have served international and national communities and partnered with schools, organizations, and institutions across the country. CFA has been recognized by American Theatre Magazine as a Thrive! Grant recipient and DCTV for its positive impact on the DC community. Our students have gone on to work for organizations such as Sesame Street Workshop, the Manhattan Theatre Club, Kokila Books, and the Miami Herald newspaper. With a record of job-readiness, career preparation, and cultural literacy, CFA is a force of good for the DMV arts community.
